Wakefield Tech Help

About

A local service for technology in the home

Friendly local help with technology in the home — Wi-Fi, smart TVs, smart-home devices, cameras, computers and home networking across Wakefield, Ossett and Horbury and nearby areas.

Wakefield Tech Help is run by Neil McRae, a sole trader. When you get in touch, that is who you are dealing with.

Why this exists

Technology in the home has quietly got complicated. A house that once had a telephone and a television now has a router, a mesh system, a couple of streaming boxes, a doorbell camera, some smart plugs, a printer that only works on alternate Tuesdays and a garden office that needs a signal.

When one of those stops working, the options are not great. The manufacturer’s helpline reads from a script and cannot come to the house. The big IT companies quote for businesses. And asking a relative who is “good with computers” only works until they run out of ideas.

How we work

We come to your home, find out what is actually wrong rather than guessing, and fix the cause. Then we explain what we did in plain English and show you how it works, so you are not left with something you are afraid to touch.

You do not need to know any of the words. Describing the problem the way you would to a neighbour is genuinely enough.

Where we cover

Wakefield, Ossett, Horbury, Sandal, Walton, Crofton, Normanton, Stanley and Rothwell, plus nearby villages and areas. If you are not sure whether that includes you, ask — it costs you nothing to check.

When we can come out

Appointments available by arrangement — we work daytime, evenings and weekends, so you should not need to take a day off work to get something sorted. Tell us roughly when suits you and we will find a time that works.

What we will not do

We will not talk down to you, we will not pad a job out, and we will not sell you equipment you do not need. If something cannot be sensibly fixed, we will say so and tell you what would actually solve it.

Tell us what is not working

A quick message is enough to get started. Say roughly where you are, what is going wrong, and when it started.
